This volunteers-in-action spotlight goes to Christie and Keith Campbell from Washington, Pennsylvania. They visited our Program Headquarters to deliver 288 pairs of shoes to be delivered into the Dominican Republic.
Christie works for the Observer-Reporter Newspaper and saw an article on a local boy collecting shoes for Roberto’s Kids as part of his Eagle Scout Project. The words Oneonta, NY jumped out at her since she grew up just 30 miles away.
Driving Christie home for a visit
The Campbells made the drive back to Christie’s home turf and personally delivered their donations on behalf of all the families that worked together in PA. They also made time to join in with Roberto’s Kids as we were supporting the local Oneonta Fire Department’s Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser.
Roberto’s Kids Supporting local fundraising
Families that have a sense of social and community responsibility share the wealth in many ways. The Campbell’s mission was to deliver collected shoes that were going to be included in shipping container that was going to send some needed shoes into an area in the Dominican Republic where our next distribution location was.
We always say that a candle loses nothing lighting another.
This was a perfect morning. We got to sit and enjoy a meal together beyond moving donations from their car to the storage unit. It was fun listening to Christie shares stories from her youth, the food was amazing, and the proceeds were used to support Hospice and YMCA Summer Youth Camp.
